Who is Promar International?
Promar International was established in 1962 and has grown to be the largest UK Agrifood consulting business. They specialise in making agricultural businesses economically sustainable. Their teams work in agricultural economics and their farm consulting covers everything from business planning to animal nutrition and field nutrient management.
The Challenge
The Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) was launched in the UK in October 2021 as part of the government's agricultural policy reforms. The grant scheme aims to support farmers in adopting sustainable land management practices and delivering environmental public goods, such as enhancing biodiversity, improving soil health, and mitigating climate change. The SFI is part of the UK government's efforts to support sustainable agriculture and help the country achieve its net-zero emissions target by 2050.
Farmers in the UK are now required to comply with new laws and regulations related to nutrient planning to ensure sustainable farming practices, protect the environment, and secure financial support from the government.
As the industry trends changed, Promar International began to face challenges with their existing nutrient planning software, which was unreliable and lacked the latest fertiliser recommendations. Their staff became frustrated with their existing tools recognising they needed a cloud-based, affordable, easy-to-use, and updated solution that could be deployed across their teams to help their customers make more profit while reducing their impact on the environment.
The Solution
Promar International discovered Farmwise nutrient management software through a Google search and found their solution met all their requirements. They appreciated the fact that the product was cloud-based and not overly complex like some other products linked to GIS (Geographic Information Systems).
Farmwise demonstrated their product to Promar’s management team in an online presentation after which they extended a courtesy farm account for their Consultancy team to test and review with live farm data. Following a successful test period and very positive feedback, they provided online training for Promar’s team of over 30 Specialists ahead of the transition to the new software.
The Results
Farmwise's solution has been a game-changer for Promar International. Their staff were delighted with the efficiency and accuracy of their new software tools. Farmwise provided solid, easy to understand practical advice, which helped farmers improve their productivity and abide by Soil and Water Regulations. The cloud-based solution made it easy to deploy across the business, and the support from the Farmwise team was excellent.
